Soup

Though life is sometimes sad and rough
replete with cheats and painful stuff,
coughs and colds, and hacking croup.
do not forget: there's always soup!
Soup? Yes, for years it's calmed the pains
and soothed the sorrows. Man complains
throughout the ages; sages knew
the value in broth and hearty stew.

There are miracles that should make us amazed--
no less than oil that burned for days--
for gardens grow, flower and yield
bounty for our pots in plot and field.
So make soup and we'll take stock
of lesser miracles. Praise the turrene and crock.
And like the miracle each Spring
know there's something sacred in this thing.
